Himalayan tarantulas, and H. himalayana is one of the few theraphosids from genuine high-altitude habitat in Nepal and northern India.
Moderate size, fossorial, and cool-running. This is the husbandry note that matters: they come from elevations where the temperature drops seriously, and they do not need or want the heat most keepers apply by default. Overheating is the common failure.
Indian and Nepalese wildlife export is closed, so supply is entirely European captive stock descended from a limited founder pool. Availability is irregular. The genus gets little attention, probably because it is not colourful, and the price reflects a small buyer pool rather than easy production.
