By husbandry, by genus, by rarity.

Husbandry

World, habitat, experience and climate.

Old World Native to Africa/Asia. No urticating hairs, but potent venom and usually fast & defensive.New World Native to the Americas. Has urticating (irritating) hairs it can flick; generally calmer venom.

Terrestrial Ground-dweller — wants floor space and some substrate to burrow into.Arboreal Tree-dweller — wants a tall enclosure with height and cross-ventilation.Fossorial Burrower — wants deep substrate; often hides underground.

Beginner A good first-tarantula choice.Intermediate Best after you've kept a few — faster or feistier.Advanced For experienced keepers: speed, venom, or husbandry demands.

Arid Dry — keep mostly dry with a water dish.Temperate Room temperature; tolerates cooler conditions.Tropical Warm and humid — keep humidity up.

Rarity BETA

Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
