Chinese and Vietnamese mesotheles: segmented-abdomen trapdoor spiders from Hainan and the mainland coast, carrying a body plan older than flight, and the venom answer that startles everyone, since mesotheles lack functional venom glands entirely. The oldest spiders are the only harmless ones.

They dig silk-lined burrows with hinged doors and radiating triplines, and live at the hinge permanently. The keeping is deep, stable, humid substrate and years of a door that occasionally moves. The lineage is the product; the animal is its custodian.

Chinese supply barely exists, captive breeding rounds to zero, and listings are single events priced to the small audience that collects deep time. Within the mesothele shelf this genus is the island entry, rarer even than its relatives, and traded accordingly.
