Genus Scolopocryptops

1 species

The blind red centipedes of North America: eyeless, uniformly rust-red soil dwellers, slimmer and stranger than the Scolopendra the shelf is built around.

They live in and under substrate and rotting wood, hunting by touch, and want moisture-holding setups with deep litter rather than the arid defaults. The venom is modest, the speed is real, and the escape rules apply at reduced stakes: a tested lid remains the husbandry.

Seasonal eastern collection supplies a thin incidental trade, priced by abundance and bought by keepers extending past the giant centipedes into the continent's stranger myriapods. The blindness and the uniform red are the entire display, best appreciated at feeding, which happens by antennae and arrives with surprising precision.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
