The common shiny woodlouse of Europe: broad, glossy, grey-marbled, and one of the original isopods, familiar from every damp log in its enormous range.
It does not conglobate, wants moisture more than the pill species, and works in the standard two roles: cleanup crew in humid enclosures and easy display culture on leaf litter and calcium. Hardy, prolific, and effectively unkillable.
The economics are the familiar fast-breeder structure: established cultures produce continuous surplus, wild-type stock is free anywhere it occurs, and any premium attaches to colour forms whose record is the standard erosion curve. A starter culture is a one-time purchase, and the genus's role in the hobby is the honest baseline against which the expensive isopods are measured.
