Genus Deroplatys

1 species

Dead leaf mantises, and the mimicry is structural rather than just colored: the pronotum is expanded into a broad, irregular shield that reads as a dried leaf from any angle.

D. desiccata is the large one and D. lobata the smaller. They are more sedentary than the active hunting mantises, wanting height for molting and reasonable humidity. Undemanding beyond that.

Standard mantis market structure applies. Lifespan is under a year, so the market fully repopulates annually, prices stay low, availability is seasonal around breeding cycles, and adults are a poor purchase relative to nymphs because you are buying the back half of a short life. Buy nymphs, buy in season, expect to buy again.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
