Genus Centrobolus

1 species

Southern African fire millipedes: glossy, deep red, compact, and among the most vivid animals the millipede shelf offers.

The keeping is standard detritivore practice: deep substrate rich in decaying hardwood, leaf litter, calcium, stable moisture. Docile, long lived, and color-fast in a class where most reds fade to brown.

The border is the market. US restrictions on African millipede imports have stood for over two decades, so American availability is thin, quiet, and descended from old stock, while European keepers see the genus more freely. Provenance is worth asking about everywhere. Wild-collected adults arrive at unknown ages, captive breeding exists but has never scaled, and the red that sells the genus is exactly as available as the paperwork allows.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
