Genus Desmoxytes

2 species

The dragon millipedes: spined, flanged, frequently shocking pink, and honest advertisers, since the color warns of hydrogen cyanide-laced defensive secretions that make the group inedible and make ventilation plus hands-off handling the sensible protocol. The chemistry is defensive, not aggressive; the animal is otherwise as docile as any millipede.

Keeping is tropical detritivore standard: humid, warm, deep substrate with decaying hardwood and litter, calcium, and stability. The spined pink profile is the display and there is nothing else like it on the shelf.

Southeast Asian supply arrives in rare pulses, identification runs at the shipment level, and captive breeding is thin. The genus trades on pure spectacle to the millipede hobby's collector end, available when a shipment lands and legendary between them.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
