A genus endemic to the Lake Wales Ridge scrub in central Florida, which is one of the most restricted ranges of any animal we track.
F. penneri is large for a North American millipede and handsome, with an ochre to orange body. Standard millipede husbandry applies: deep substrate, decaying hardwood, calcium.
The range restriction is the point. This is a habitat under genuine development pressure and the millipede is a scrub specialist that cannot relocate. That makes collection an ethical question rather than just a supply one, and it is worth asking a vendor about provenance before buying. Availability is limited. Captive-bred stock exists and is the better purchase for reasons beyond price.
