The camel spiders: solifuges, the running mouths of the desert, with the largest jaws relative to body size of any arachnid and a metabolism that never stops. No venom at all, which surprises everyone; the jaws are the entire story.
Honesty is the keeping note. Solifuges have a poor captive record: they run hot, feed constantly, stress easily, and wild-caught adults, which is all the trade offers, frequently arrive with most of their short lives spent. Deep sand, heat, ceaseless food, and realistic expectations are the program.
Middle Eastern and North African collection supplies occasional animals, nobody breeds them, and the genus trades on spectacle to keepers who accept the terms: the most ferocious-looking animal in the hobby, for one season, on its own schedule.
