Genus Gymnetis

1 species

New World flower beetles: compact, glossy, patterned scarabs kept as adults for display and as larvae for the simplest rearing project the hobby offers.

The keeping splits by life stage and both halves are easy: grubs develop in deep, compost-rich substrate on decaying hardwood and leaf litter; adults want fruit, warmth, and something to climb. The cycle completes readily in captivity, which makes this one of the few groups where breeding is the default rather than the achievement.

Captive production carries the market, and the economics follow: established cultures generate surplus, prices sit accordingly, and premiums attach to pattern forms on the standard erosion schedule. The genus trades as the accessible entry to beetle keeping, a full metamorphosis on a windowsill, priced like the starter project it is.
