Large New World roaches, and the genus splits neatly into feeders and display animals. B. discoidalis feeds reptiles. B. craniifer, the death's head, has a skull-like pronotum marking and is kept for its own sake. B. giganteus is simply enormous.
Easy to culture, prolific, undemanding, and unable to climb smooth surfaces or fly well enough to be an escape problem, which is why they replaced less manageable feeder species.
Prices are at the floor and will stay there, because anyone with a colony produces surplus continuously. The only price movement is on newer or scarcer species and it never lasts. Buy a starter culture rather than individuals and you will never buy again.
