Genus Nauphoeta

1 species

The lobster roach: the feeder-culture workhorse that climbs. Fast-breeding, prolific, unfussy, and capable of walking up glass, which single-handedly defines its husbandry: a barrier of petroleum jelly or slick tape at the rim, or a genuinely sealed lid.

Colonies establish quickly on warmth, cover, and kitchen-grade feeding, and they convert scraps into feeder biomass at a rate few species match. Soft-bodied at every size, which is the feeding advantage over the armored alternatives.

Colony economics at their purest: surplus is continuous, prices sit at the permanent floor, and a starter culture is the only purchase anyone makes twice. The climbing is the entire trade-off against the non-climbing feeders, and the genus's market position is exactly that calculation, resolved differently by every keeper.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
