Genus Simandoa

1 species

The Simandoa cave roach, and the heaviest conservation story in the catalogue: described from a single Guinean cave system that was subsequently destroyed by bauxite mining, the species is considered extinct in the wild and survives entirely in captive culture. Every animal in the hobby is an ark passenger.

The keeping is fortunately easy: warm, humid setups with deep substrate and cover, standard feeding, steady colony growth. The animals are boldly patterned, active, and displayed as much for the story as the appearance.

The economics are colony-standard, softened by meaning: cultures produce surplus, prices sit modestly, and the premium over comparable roaches buys participation in an accidental rescue. The genus trades as the hobby's proof that keeping things alive is occasionally the whole point, and it is the best answer to the question of why any of this matters.
