Genus Buthacus

1 species Buthacus — commonly said as byoo-THAY-kus

North African and Middle Eastern sand buthids, pale, slender-clawed, and medically significant: this genus sits in the serious desert cluster alongside its famous neighbors, and the pale coloration should not read as mild.

Deep fine sand is the setup, sealed and forceps-maintained, jurisdiction checked first. They are fast across loose substrate and sedentary otherwise, burying and waiting.

Egyptian and Levantine supply moves irregularly, captive breeding is thin, and the sand-scorpion niche prices on origin and drama while the clinical weight goes unphotographed. That mismatch between appearance and risk is the genus's defining trade fact, and it is why every species entry here repeats the caution.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
