New World bark scorpions, arboreal and crevice-dwelling rather than burrowing, and the genus is genuinely split on danger. C. vittatus is a mild sting. C. sculpturatus is the only scorpion in the United States with medically significant venom and has a dedicated antivenom.
They are slender, quick, and climbers, which changes the enclosure problem entirely. Smooth-sided is not sufficient. They also do well communally in many species, which is unusual for buthids.
Most US species are wild-collected and seasonal, so availability tracks the collecting calendar rather than any breeding cycle. The Central American and Caribbean species trade higher on irregular import. Legality varies by state and is worth checking before ordering.
