Genus Diplocentrus

Current deals →
5 species

Mexican and Central American scorpions, stout-bodied, heavy-clawed, and following the general rule: thick pincers and a thin tail means mild venom.

They burrow, they want a bit more moisture than the desert species, and they are considerably more forgiving than the buthids that dominate scorpion listings. Several species are attractive in a subdued way with reddish or deep brown tones.

Most supply is wild-collected Mexican material arriving irregularly, so availability is seasonal and unpredictable. Species identification in the trade is loose. This is a good genus for a keeper who wants a scorpion without wanting a medically significant one, and it is easy to come by for the same reason it is obscure.
