Genus Euscorpius

1 species

The small wood scorpions of Europe: glossy, dark, crevice-dwelling animals from stone walls and forest litter, and carriers of the mildest venom the scorpion shelf offers. Stings from this genus are routinely compared to nettles, which makes it the standing answer to the question of a genuinely low-risk scorpion.

They want cooler, moister keeping than desert defaults: cork bark, litter, gentle humidity, no supplemental heat. Small, sedentary, long lived, and tolerant of the temperate room conditions that stress tropical species.

European collection supplies a small trade, species boundaries within the genus are a specialist argument that listings ignore, and prices sit where abundance and mildness put them. The genus's role in the hobby is the entry point and the classroom animal, and it fills both honestly.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
