Genus Hadrurus

1 species Hadrurus — commonly said as ha-DROO-rus

North American desert hairy scorpions, the largest in the United States, covered in sensory setae and genuinely impressive at full size. H. arizonensis is the one everyone keeps.

The venom is mild. The husbandry is not. These are deep-burrowing animals from genuinely arid habitat, and the single most common way keepers lose them is providing the humidity they assume a captive animal needs. Dry substrate, real depth, a water dish, and patience.

Almost the entire market is wild-collected from Arizona and California on a seasonal schedule, so availability disappears in the cold months. That also means most animals sold are adults of unknown age, which is worth factoring into what you are actually buying.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
