Genus Augacephalus

Current deals →
Old World 3 species

Southern African baboons, closely related to Ceratogyrus and Pterinochilus and behaving much like both. A. ezendami and A. junodi are the traded species.

Fossorial, heavy webbing at the burrow mouth, and a threat display deployed with very little provocation. No urticating hairs. Moderate size, dark with subtle patterning that does not photograph well and looks better in person.

They breed adequately in Europe, which puts them in the same bracket as the horned baboons: an inexpensive, genuinely old world animal for a keeper who has moved past New World terrestrials. The genus gets almost no attention relative to its close relatives, and that inattention is the entire reason the price is where it is rather than anything about the spider.
