Genus Encyocratella

Old World 1 species
Illustration © Mingo Xie / The Silk Ranch Encyocratella olivacea

A single species, E. olivacea, from the Uluguru mountains in Tanzania, and one of the more genuinely uncommon old world tarantulas that shows up with any regularity.

Black with olive setae, and the sexes look different enough that unsexed juveniles trade at a meaningful discount. Arboreal to semi-fossorial depending on what you give it, which means it will use a cork bark tube or dig, and it commits to whichever it picks. Old world temperament throughout.

Breeding is inconsistent and Tanzanian material does not move freely, so availability comes in irregular bursts followed by long dry stretches. Prices hold firm through the gaps rather than drifting, which is the signature of demand that exceeds production rather than a hype cycle.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
