Genus Idiophthalma

1 species

Central and South American brush-footed trapdoor spiders: burrowing mygalomorphs outside the tarantula family, digging lidded or collared burrows and living at the threshold.

Keeping is the trapdoor program: deep, firm substrate that holds a shaft, stable moisture, and the understanding that the visible animal is an entrance. Venom is undocumented and unremarkable by everything known of the group; mygalomorph no-handling practice applies on principle. Females persist for years.

The trade record is nearly empty. Material surfaces in single listings under locality labels, identification rests on the collector, and prices form without competition or history. This is another genus where the buyer writes the care sheet rather than reading one, and the honest structural note is that a lone listing's price is information about one seller, not about the animal.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
