Genus Phlogiellus

Old World 2 species

Southeast Asia's dwarf earth tigers: small, fast Old World burrowers spread from the Philippines through Indonesia, historically tangled with Selenocosmia and its relatives and still sorting out at the edges.

Small scale changes the housing, not the rules. These are Old World animals in full: no urticating hairs, real speed, defensive at the burrow, and venom undocumented at species level, which defaults to significant. No handling. Deep substrate in a modest footprint, warmth, and distance.

Trade identification is soft, with island and locality labels doing most of the work, and regional export restrictions keep founder stock narrow. The genus trades at the inexpensive end of the Old World shelf, which is precisely the combination, low priced plus genuinely venomous, that deserves an explicit warning.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
