The genus that took the black-legged species out of Brachypelma in 2020, which means half the listings on the internet still call these animals Brachypelma. T. albopilosus, the curly hair, is the flagship.
The curly hair deserves its reputation. Slow, calm, tolerant of husbandry mistakes, attractive without being demanding, and affordable. If someone asks for one recommendation for a first tarantula, this is a defensible answer.
The genus is also CITES Appendix II, inherited from the split, so international movement carries paperwork even though domestic supply is deep. The Nicaraguan and Honduran forms of albopilosus trade at slightly different levels on appearance grounds, which is one of the clearer examples of a locality label doing real pricing work in this hobby.
