Genus Cupiennius
The banana spiders of laboratory fame, and the resolution of a famous mix-up: large Central American wandering spiders regularly confused with the dangerous Phoneutria, and regularly the actual identity of the "deadly spider in the fruit shipment" news story. Cupiennius venom is medically minor. The resemblance is real; the risk is not.
They are big, fast, nocturnal surface hunters, containment-defined in keeping: vertical structure, humidity, and an opening protocol, because the speed is genuine even if the danger is not. Decades of neuroscience research on this genus mean its biology is better documented than almost anything else in the trade.
Supply is thin captive breeding from research-adjacent lines, and the genus offers the wandering-spider experience with the medical stakes removed, which is a niche exactly one genus fills this well.
