Genus Deinopis

Current deals →
1 species

The net-casting spiders, and the single most theatrical hunting method in the trade: they weave a small rectangular net, hold it stretched between their front legs, and throw it over passing prey, aiming by way of the enormous night-adapted eyes that earn the ogre-faced name.

The keeping is built entirely around letting that happen: vertical twigs to hang from, flying and walking prey introduced below, gentle humidity, and darkness for the hunt. They are fragile, short-lived, and useless to disturb; the cast is the entire product and it is worth the arrangement.

Supply is rare, seasonal, and mostly wild-collected singles. The genus trades to keepers buying a behaviour rather than an animal, and no listing lasts long, because the audience for a spider that throws nets is everyone who has seen the video.
