Genus Platythomisus

The giant ornate crab spiders of Asia: broad, bold-patterned ambushers in yellows and blacks, several times the size of the familiar flower crabs and among the most striking true spiders anywhere.

The keeping is the ambush program at scale: planted structure to hold station on, flying prey, warmth and humidity, and acceptance that a sit-and-wait hunter's activity is the wait. Venom is unremarkable. The pattern is the product, and in the large species it is genuinely spectacular.

Lifespans run short, supply is rare Southeast Asian collection in single listings, and prices form on the scarcity of anyone offering them at all. The genus trades on pure appearance to the true-spider shelf's collector end, and listings vanish at the speed the photographs deserve.

Rarity BETA Rarity is supply, and only supply: the tier is how many sellers have ever carried a species, and for a single seller, how many separate listings. Price is not part of it, and neither is how recently it appeared. Tiers are given to tarantula species only.
