Genus Caribena

New World 2 species

Two species, and one of them is versicolor, which is most of the reason anyone knows the genus exists. Split out of Avicularia in 2017.

The Martinique pinktoe goes through the most dramatic color change in the hobby: metallic blue sling, drab awkward juvenile, then green carapace and red abdomen as an adult. That transformation is the entire market. Slings sell in volume because the blue phase photographs well, and there is a persistent gap between sling and adult pricing that has less to do with growth time than with the fact that most people buy the blue one and then discover it needs airflow.

They die easily in stagnant, over-humid setups. That is not fragility, it is a husbandry mismatch, and it is responsible for a meaningful share of the beginner losses in this hobby.
