Old World 1 species

One species, T. bambus, described in 2022 from northern Thailand, and it is the only tarantula known to live obligately inside bamboo.

It does not bore the bamboo itself. It occupies existing cavities made by insects or splitting, lines them with silk, and lives entirely within the stalk. That is a genuinely novel life history for a theraphosid and it was significant enough to make general science press when published.

It has barely entered the hobby. Thai material moves rarely, captive breeding is in its infancy, and the few listings that appear are priced by sellers with no comparison point. Anyone buying one right now is buying at the top of a curve that has always come down, and there is very little established husbandry guidance to work from. Treat any care advice you find as provisional.
