Thai Bamboo Tarantula
Taksinus bambus
Taksinus — commonly said as tak-SY-nusAbout this species
An Old World arboreal tarantula. Medium-sized, skittish and fast, and generally recommended for intermediate keepers. 1 live listing across 1 seller, with a lowest ask of $100.
Described in 2022 from northern Thailand and the only tarantula known to live obligately inside bamboo stalks.
It does not bore the bamboo. It occupies cavities created by insect damage or splitting, lines them with silk, and lives entirely within. That life history is novel enough for a theraphosid that the description reached general science press, which is rare for this hobby.

The size guide has no adult size for this species yet, so it has no life-stage bands to read a typical at.

"Typical here" is this species' price at that listing's size and sex, with the shop's usual premium set aside.

🔥 the lowest asking price per animal, before shipping, ever recorded for that species, sex and life stage
Any column header sorts the table. Shipping is what the seller charges to ship one animal, read off their own posted policy; ❓ means they calculate it at checkout. Landed is the ask plus shipping, before tax, for a single animal. Graded against wild-caught prices when the listing's title says wild-caught; otherwise source has no effect on the grade.

How these numbers are worked out — typical advertised price, deal grades, and what they do not mean
Typical advertised price is an ask a shop actually lists — never a modeled figure; it is shown to the nearest dollar. It is named when three or more shops ask within a dollar of each other for one unsexed animal, and that agreed price is shown. For tarantulas it is read from unsexed slings, and when the slings' shops do not agree the middle shop's ask is shown. For every other group, when the shops do not agree the box shows the range of current asks instead and names no typical, and one shop asking is named as one shop. Each shop counts once, whatever its shelf holds.
Typical here is the price model's typical for a listing's own size and sex — fitted every night across every shop's asks, with each shop's own level and slope kept out of the published line, so a shop that prices high on adults does not move what "typical" means. "Commonly span" is the middle 80% of comparable asks the same model expects.
A deal grade compares a listing with Typical here. Never with the species as a whole: a 1" unsexed sling and a 5" confirmed female sit on different parts of the same curve. A listing with no stated size, a species with one shop, a pack, or a cell the model withholds is Not graded, with the reason shown — never marked down for lack of data.
The badges:
- 🔥 the lowest asking price per animal, before shipping, ever recorded for that species, sex and life stage — in stock now, at or below its Typical here, and only where at least two sellers have listed it. It replaces the grade.
- 💎💎 at least 40% below its Typical here.
- 💎 20–40% below.
- 👍 from 20% below to 20% above it.
- 👎 more than 20% above.
Those thresholds are deliberately wide, and the same in both directions: the same animal at the same size is commonly listed at about 2× the price by one seller as by another, so a small gap from the middle says little on its own.
What these numbers are not. FangTrack sees asks, never sales — nothing here is a record of what anything sold for. Every shop we track is included; the model carries each shop's own level so none has to be left out. Private collection uploads never affect any public number. Grades and 🔥 use the ask alone, before shipping; the Landed figure is the ask plus the flat shipping rate on our sheet for that seller (read from the shop's own policy where it posts one), not a checkout total.
A grade is information, not advice. Condition, provenance and how well a seller packs a live animal matter more than a few dollars, and none of them are in the price. More on how this is calculated →
